The complementary teaching mission: for whom? Why?

• It is reserved for contractual doctoral students (within the meaning of the Decree of 23 April 2009 modified by the Decree of 29 August 2016) enrolled in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd year.
• It corresponds to a maximum service of 64 hours of teaching equivalent to TD or HETD spread over the academic year, carried out within a teaching team.
• The complementary teaching mission prepares the doctoral student for the profession of teacher-researcher and allows him or her to acquire professional experience.

When and how to apply?

• The campaign for the allocation of complementary teaching assignments is organized every year starting in May, for the start of the academic year in September, and according to a variable calendar depending on the Training Colleges.
• Teaching opportunities are defined beforehand in the different departments and teaching components of the University of Bordeaux.
• The completion of a complementary mission requires the favourable approval of the Director of the Doctoral School, the Thesis Supervisor and the Director of the Research Unit.

Remuneration

• In return for your teaching assignment, you will receive an additional monthly income in addition to your main salary received under your doctoral contract.
• Please note that no amendment to the doctoral contract will be implemented without your prior registration at the university and the issuance of the school certificate.

The complementary expertise mission: for whom? Why?

• During their doctorate, doctoral students holding a doctoral contract can carry out, outside the framework of their thesis, "an expertise mission" with structures in the private or public sector (companies, societies, associations, local authorities...).
• It consists for the doctoral student in responding to a need that is not met internally in the host structure. It is not a continuity of his/her thesis work.
• These punctual interventions, precisely and jointly defined by the hosting structure and the doctoral student can consist of: experimentation, advice, legal analysis, market or feasibility study, project support, report writing, product and software development, documentation writing, competition analysis, training, website creation...
• The maximum duration is 32 days to be spread over one academic year and per year of enrollment. It can be renewed during the three years of thesis. The schedule and the presence of the doctoral student in the company within the 32-day limit are defined between the company and the doctoral student, in agreement with the thesis supervisor during the academic year.

• To be able to benefit from a tax credit (CIR) under certain conditions
• The management of the employment contract is ensured by the university, the doctoral student remains its employee.
• The cost of the remuneration paid by the university to the doctoral student is invoiced to the host structure in which the expertise mission takes place.
• Drafting of a tripartite agreement for any mission with a partner outside the university specifying the terms and conditions for implementing the mission (definition, confidentiality, intellectual property, status of the doctoral student, duration... )

How to apply?

• Define the mission, define the objectives and the expected competencies
• Assess the number of days required to complete the mission (16 days or 32 days maximum)
