Pre requisites

The doctorate enrollment requirements are set out in the decree of August 26, 2022 setting the national framework for the training and procedures leading to award of the national doctorate qualification.

To be enrolled for a doctorate

To enroll for a doctorate, you must have a Master degree obtained in France or an equivalent qualification awarded following a training course, or professional experience establishing your aptitude for research (Order of August 26, 2022).

However, the head of the institution may accept students who have completed studies at an equivalent level or who have received the Validation of learning from experience (VAE) provided for in Article L. 613-5 of the French Education Code.

In addition, the doctoral school concerned will check the financial, material and scientific requirements of the doctoral student for the duration of the thesis

The selection criteria are set by the doctoral schools :  you must contact the one related to your disciplinary field in order to enroll.

Before you enroll in a thesis program

The following item must be checked :

  • the thesis project
  • the approval of an authorized thesis supervisor in a research unit of the University of Bordeaux
  • the doctoral specialty
  • funding (depending on the doctoral schools)
