For easy reading and uniformity, all University of Bordeaux theses must be written in a structured way.
The thesis is structured to ensure a certain coherence in presentation at national level and to facilitate reporting and consultation, by generating an abstract. To understand how to write and structure a thesis, doctoral students may refer to Guide to writing and presenting theses. 

Formatting

To help you structure your thesis according to the ministerial recommendations, the Documentation Department provides a brief summary of the main points and an example of a title page and initial page, for theses :  cotutelle doctoral program, classical doctoral program.

A French thesis must be written in French  (Code de l'éducation, article L12-3). In the case of a co-supervision thesis, with another choice of language, the thesis must include a substantial summary describing the research context, the approach adopted and the results obtained. This summary will be added to the final document (Guide to writing and presenting theses for doctoral students), published by the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research, p.6).

A thesis bibliography may be large and complex to manage, so it is advisable to use a bibliographic management tool to collect references, organize, preserve and format them

Under the Order of August 7, 2006 on the digital filing of theses, a version of the thesis must be permanently stored at the Centre Informatique de l’Enseignement Supérieur (CINES, Higher Education Electronic Center)..

The doctoral student files an electronic version of the thesis prior to the viva voce, with the relevant University department, in compliance with the defined procedure. The doctoral student promises to comply with the rules for writing the thesis and the requested format in order to guarantee the viability of the filing and the electronic archiving  (http://facile.cines.fr) The Documentation Department thesis service will ensure that your file complies with the requirements (Article §3.1.c of the publication agreement).
