Who delivers it?
The title of Emeritus Professor is granted by the President of the University, on the proposal of the Research Commission of the Academic Council, meeting in restricted training, to persons who are authorized to supervise research work. The only institution authorized to confer the title of emeritus professor is the last institution of assignment before retirement. The duration of the emeritus is determined by the institution.
What does emeritus allow?
Emeritus professors may continue to contribute, on an accessory and gratis basis, to the missions provided for in article 3 of decree no. 84-431 of June 6, and in particular may supervise seminars, theses and participate in thesis or habilitation juries.
Emeritus lecturers may continue to contribute, on an ancillary and free basis, to research activities.
Legally, teachers admitted to retirement have permanently ceased to belong to a civil service corps. They are considered to be voluntary public service employees. They cannot therefore receive any remuneration for services rendered in this capacity.
